Josephine Richardson: Artist Statement

My main skills within photography are well routed in the Documentary genre. As a documentary photographer, my main goal is to capture images full of truth and honesty. I am heavily influenced by traditional photographers such as Diane Arbus, Richard Billingham and Richard Avedon for their stark and unequivocal imagery. Modern reportage Photographer Spencer Platt and Contemporary photographer Wolfgang Tillmans have also been of inspiration in my most recent work.

Whist I consider myself a Documentary photographer, my work also has the potential to develop more conceptually. I am a firm believer in meaning behind imagery, and the concept of the idea being more important than the outcome. I feel having emotion and value within your work shows a level of dedication

and greater understanding.

My work has a tendency to be personal to my beliefs and life Experience, explored in a way that others can view and relate.
I want to share my work with others in a way that conveys who I am. My Images and work ethic is and will always remain
truthful, honest and sincere.
